Kamifusen

Developed in the 1890's, Kamifusen paper balloon emerged as a charming alternative to the rubber balloon. The word Kamifusen means paper balloon. Kami  meaning paper and fusen meaning balloon. Created by the wives of fishermen during the winter season with handmade waxed washi paper, this simple toy caught the attention of Japanese manufacturers in the early 1920's. For those unfamiliar with the Kamifusen game the object is to keep the multicolored kamifusen in the air by hitting it with your hand.
